After not having eaten red meat in about 15 years, I tried the Beyond brand of meat substitutes the other day. I was immediately impressed at the flavor. "This tastes just like a burger!", I exclaimed. I was quickly corrected by all present, who sampled the stuff. Apparently, my taste buds have forgotten the taste of cow🐄
I think it's telling that you could cut the nighttime street scenes from Idiocracy, and the audio of the language spoken in the future from the same, and splice that footage right into that of the rioters burning down their own communities right now and nobody who hadn't seen the movie would realize... We don't have a racism or other 'ism problem in our country as much as we have an intelligence problem. There are idiots on all sides of all problems and they aren't limited to any one group.
...to end out my #introduction, I will simply say, this is why I went with a private instance of Mastodon. I have no intention of slandering any groups on here but I also have no intention of kowtowing to any pressures to moderate with an iron-fist. My goal with my modest instance is simply to have a space clear of wrong-though policing where one can find, well, the freedom to think. Come find me @freedomtothink.social
...to continue my #introduction, I have grown quite tired of the self-important movements of the day; the group-centric non-think that has permeated so much of our current culture that draws importance upon characteristics, some claimed but mostly immutable. I cannot watch an honest discussion between humans unfold without some other person popping in and calling one or all of the people talking some sort of 'phobe. It's intellectually lazy and emotionally undeveloped.
First post on my new instance so I guess an #introduction is in order. My name is Chris. I am from the U.S. and I am a Network Security Admin. I'm a classic family man by nature and an avid bookworm. I love astronomy and tinkering with anything that has moving parts. I am quite good at leather working, crafting, and sewing (cosplay background) and have been called a renaissance man by many.
I am a man. I work as a Network Security Engineer and am an unapologetic geek. You like puns? They're my second language.
To define what Mastodon is, I will borrow from Wikipedia: "Mastodon is a free and open-source self-hosted social networking service. It allows anyone to host their own server node in the network, and its various separately operated user bases are federated across many different servers. These nodes are referred to as "instances" by Mastodon users." What you have found @ freedomtothink.social is one such instance of the greater Mastodon collective where the focus is on light moderation, no heavy-handed thought-policing, and the freedom to have a respectful conversation.
